SALON VLOG | Hang out with me, Let's Sombre!

Recently I came to the realization that some of my readers and watchers don't always know what I do in the real world. Its not all unicorn lipstick and braiding my hair everyday... well that last part is probably a lie. This video is an attempt to vlog a day to hang out with me and see what it's like to be a hairstylist.

I wanted to bring you behind the scenes to my job at the salon and show you where my passion from being a youtube hair blogger comes from. By night (and mondays when I'm off and most likely at home editing videos for the week) I'm a blogger, but by day I work as a hairstylist and makeup artist!

Today I worked on touching up my friend Mariahs color. She decided to go a little towards a Sombre (soft version of an ombre) to help keep her hair on the healthy side while she is working so hard to grow it out. I love this rooty look because it lets you keep brightness right where you want it, while allowing the hair to take a break from over processing! I hope you guys enjoy this quick hang out with us session!

Valentines Day Sexy Makeup + Adore Me Lingerie

For Valentines day my love and I stick to homemade meals with candle light and a good movie. We like to spend time together without the crazy stress of trying to go out for dinner only to have terrible service. Not so much fun in our books! So since we will be home I won't really be wearing too much makeup, but for you girls who have special plans with your amore this sexy look is perfect!

I wanted to especially share something on the dark side that can still be wearable for blondes. Sometimes dark shadow looks makes me feel like a panda, lets be real. So this soft smokey look is a gorgeous way to look sultry all night long.

If you want to look and FEEL sexy from head to toe, Adore Me has really cute and sexy sets for a great price. I'm not really comfortable in a corset style of lingerie, so I love that they sent me this really sexy Blue Balconette bra and panty set, along with a nighty from their sleepwear line. Whether your more  sweet and conservative or on the playful wild side, they have a beautiful selection of lingerie to choose from!
(Join Adore Me's monthly VIP Membership and get your first set for $24.95)

Warrior Princess Braid | "Anya" from The 100

After seeing a quick clip from a show my brothers were watching, The 100, I was instantly inspired with a braided hairstyle worn by the character Anya. She is a clan leader on earth, and this tribeswoman warrior looks like a force to be reckoned with. So lets see how to mimic that appearance with a really great multi braided hairstyle! Hope you like this one loves!

Jaclyn Hill Favorites Palette | Review + Swatches

When you want a limited edition pallete really bad, sometimes you stay on the computer fighting an overloaded server for 3 hours. Thats what happened New Years day when this hot baby launched at 12am on the Morphe Brushes website. Mass chaos of thousands of fans trying to get their hands on the Jaclyn Hills Favorites palette. Some succeeded, like me after waiting 3 hours for a few pages to load, some did not and the palette was sold out. Fortunately Morphe Brushes announced on their -->instagram<-- that they will be restocking this palette so everyone can have a chance to purchase the Jaclyn Hills Favorites in February. The said to follow them on instagram, stock it if you want it, and they will notify their customers when it is available again! Don't worry you still have a chance to get this, which is why I'm reviewing it for you today!

This was my first purchase from Morphe Brushes, and my first time trying out any of their shadows. I've always heard good things about the shadows and most everything else they have. So I jumped at my chance to try out multiple shadow finishes in palette form. Also, very excited for Jaclyn Hills collaboration and that she was able to create her own custom palette because her makeup taste is unique with the shades she normally wears. Her warm browns and orange tones set her apart, oh and did I mention her magical blending powers? Haha! I'm pretty happy with the quality, pigmentation, formulas, and longevity in these shadows. I'm going to leave most of my input and review in the video, but I do have picture swatches so you can see at first glance if this is something you'd be interested in!

I hope you enjoy this review, and remember that my opinions are always how I feel and I hope to share with you my feelings so that you have a reliable source for what you could add to your makeup collection! And if your not into wanting the whole palette, these are not limited edition shades so you can buy them in pan form and make your own palette!

Greer Grammer Side Swept Updo | 2015 Golden Globes

After checking out all the red carpet looks from the 2015 Golden Globe awards, I was kind of disappointed in the hairstyles that people wore. I am always looking for gorgeous hair to recreate for you, but this event was pretty plain in inspiration. Don't get me wrong, the wavy curls are gorgeous, and I love a sleek straight look with the floor length dresses, but I felt really uninspired because this is the time you can get  little creative with a braid, or unusual way to style your hair. There were probably two people that I thought really stole the hair and makeup spot light, one of them being this gorgeous side swept undo worn by Greer Grammar!

This look is simple and sophisticated but with an airy effortless side that makes it perfect for so many face shapes and event styles to wear. You could pick this for a Sunday morning church service, or a perfect hairstyle for all your brides maids, and for an evening dinner with your significant other. I worked on breaking it down to be as easy as can be so when you're trying to do your own hair, it can be possible to style a effortless undo!

The Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette | Review

After my infatuation with the first Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette, I instantly ordered the Semi Sweet palette ($49) when it became available on Sephora. My expectations were of as the first palette. Rich and creamy with gorgeous pigmentation that would soon find the Semi Sweet Bar a place in my heart right next to Chocolate Bar.

This palette comes with 16 shades that carry warm tones with a single blue shade. This one smells like a delicious candy bar that is has the names of the shades written on the palette, something that the first palette was annoyingly made without! The packaging is pretty much the same but this one is sleeker and not as deep as the last. I would liked to have seen something a bit different in the shadows since the first palette was already a warm tone variety. In comparison to the first palettes packaging, this one seems to mimic the first. Although the quality of the shadows are not as pigmented and amazing as the first. Unfortunately most of the shadows swatch very poorly, there were only three that were pretty but similar to shades I have in other palettes. Pink Sugar (its really just a dusty shimmer) and Blueberry Swirl are two stand out thats that barely make a difference when you try to use them. The colors overall are not impressive at all and not worth the $49!

I can't say I'm extremely excited about the Semi Sweet palette, and I did return this to Sephora. I don't like to hoard things that won't be well loved. Luckily Sephora will accept returns within 60 days of purchasing, this gives you time to figure out if you like your purchase or not. As much as I wanted to really love the Semi Sweet palette, it doesn't cut it for a high quality expectation in my opinion. If you have the palette and maybe feel differently, leave your comment below so I can read it! Not everyone likes/dislikes the same things and I would love to see how you view the new palette!

Rainy Day Attire

Had a gorgeous raining day this Sunday. My husband and I did some thorough spring cleaning, a little hot tub soaking, and movie watching. After we went out for a little bit and I wanted to share this outfit with you!

I can't believe that I'm wearing denim on denim...weird. I will note that the shades of jean material is extremely contrasting, that way I don't look like a cowboy. ;) My gorgeous oversized gray scarf has quickly become an easy go to item for a completed look. It comes from the company MoonCats, who sent this scarf to feature in a look. They have a full online boutique with an array of cozy scarfs. If you're a scarf lover like me, its hard to not get them all!!! They also gave me an amazing code to get 30% off: LEXIIBARBIE30OFF!
With a few different shades of gray in my outfit, I feel like I fit perfectly with this rainy afternoon.

DIY Home Decor Inspiration | Bedroom & Living Room

Following my previous post on my DIY Headboard project that my husband and I worked on, I wanted to share other ways we use DIY in our house. I'm a big believer in taking old furniture and items, restoring them, and using them to decorate once again. For me I actually like things to look old, so thats what I tend to go for.
My headboard and bedding is all new ( DIY HERE), but the gorgeous white candelabras hanging on the sides were found at an antique auction. My husband accidentally bid on them because he thought I wanted them...and won. Since they were a horrible gold bronze tacky color, which I gave new life to with a can of white spray paint and silver candle sticks. The perfect accent to our beautiful bed.

I love setting things on pretty trays. Above you can see this decorative serving tray that I found at a Good Will, used to hold my candles. I can easily move this from room to room for some gorgeous candle light.

This is a special space that goes back generations into my family. My mom had this huge old trunk sitting in the corner of her room and I asked if I could have it for a coffee table. She was more then happy to get it out of the corner of her room, and I found out that it was a bit to large for a coffee table haha! So Instead I placed it on the wall in the living room for a cute little decorative table. It was the trunk of my Great-Great-Great-Grandma, who used it to carry her belongings while traveling. Now it shares a special spot on display in our living room. Behind it I have an old door from our friends house which they replaced, naturally I asked if I could have it. Haha, one mans junk is another mans treasure. And the really freaking awesome pin-up book was a gift from my Uncle...making it the largest "coffee table" display book ever. I could probably kill a wild buffalo with it! Add some flowers and candles and its prefect!

The last thing I wanted to share with you is something we worked on a while ago, but still something I wanted to share. It was an old buffet table/hutch which we completely redid with a white washed kind of textured finish. Making it old and distressed looking. I changed the old ugly hardware with some gorgeous knobs I found at Hobby Lobby and Anthropology. We decided to make it our TV table which fits perfectly in the corner of our living room.

I'm always on the lookout for great furniture that is perfect as is, or could use a little TLC. Some of my favorite things have been diamonds in the dirt. Clean them up and you have a gorgeous featured piece or accent decor. What amazing things have you discovered and turned into house decor??? Share them with me and please tag me if you post them to instagram @alexsismae!
