What is BB Cream?

It's crazy when a new fad, or even something that's been around for a while, becomes popular overnight! All of a sudden there is this huge buzz about a "new" makeup product called a BB Cream. Well the reality of this is...wait for it...THIS ISN'T NEW! You can also refer to a tinted moisturizer which is very similar, BB creams have been around for quite some time but just recently arrived as a fad in the United States.

So what is BB Cream? It's a wonderful cocktail of all your needed base products; moisturizer, primer, foundation, setting powder, and an SPF. Which in a woman's fast pace life can seem like a complete miracle. In one step your've hydrated, corrected skin tone, and protected your skin. In my book that's pretty impressive, since my full makeup look consists of doing all that in separate steps!

Whats the difference between BB Cream and regular foundation? If you think about your makeup routine it's similar to building a house. You lay out the foundation, set up your walls which is your color and the main part, then top it off with a roof for covering. But when you get a makeup bag full of things you need to use, how do you know what order to put them in and if they will work properly with each other? BB cream has taken all that confusion away with creating an all-in-one product so you don't need to waist your time with multiple steps and incorrect layering.

What are the top 2 drugstore and professional BB creams? I will also tell you my favorite BB Cream, but first let me tell you what reviews tell me are the best from drugstores!

DRUGSTORE
Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream- Rated 4.7 out of 5 stars this BB Cream instantly gives skin a natural and even coverage creating a radiant and smooth face! With it's non oily formula you can achieve a sheer coverage great for everyday use with an spf of 15. On their website a wonderful 159 out of 187 reviewers would recommend this product! (13$)

Maybelline Dream Fresh- Rated 4 out of 5 stars this BB Cream blurs imperfections, has an spf of 30, brightens and enhances the natural you! One review said this about the product, "I tried this product out and really liked it. I had never tried a BB cream before and did not know what to expect. It covers nice but is a really light feel. I would recommend it to anyone who asked." (8$)

PROFESSIONAL
Benefit's You Rebel Tinted Moisturizer- Rated 4.3 out of 5 stars this is MY FAVORITE professional BB cream. I'm actually using this one currently since I've been working on my tan, I don't like to use a heavy foundation since my skin evens out with a tan. Why do I love this product? It makes my skin feel super smooth and takes care of my skin all day with a spf of 15, and I only have to use a small amount! It also improves the skins elasticity and uses vitamin-E to protect against signs of aging. (30$)

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream- Rated 4.1 out of 5 stars this product get's high reviews! One user said this, "Love this BB cream! Great coverage, but light feel on skin. Very hydrating. Made me a convert for BB cream!" You can't help but love an oil controlled multitasking formula that improves natural hydration and provides a lasting wear. It also has the highest spf of 35! (39$)

So are you ready to try out a BB cream? I know that I love using mine and will continue to use it throughout the spring to summer months! If you've used any of these products tell me about your opinion!

How to Groom Men's Brows

Hello lovers!
I have a different type of a tutorial for you today, how to Groom your man's brows! I know that so many ladies make fun of guys brows...especially the famed UNI-BROW. I called my husbands brows fuzzy caterpillars, he's Italian so it's a given that he will have thick brows. When I asked him if I could wax his brows he instantly turned down the offer. Guys don't get their brows waxed! So after I told him that I wouldn't make them look "girly" and that it would look a lot better, he let me do it. Yes, he now asks me to clean them up for him! I only remove the excess and overgrown part, nothing like a girls waxing.
Check out the tutorial and see how you can clean up the man in your life ;)

How to dress your Body

I came across this post on sheknows.com about dressing for your body type. So many times we don't know what will flatter or look bad on our body...or even what body type we have! I wanted to share this with you so you can find the perfect things to best enhance your features! I'm also posting the Do's and Son't of each body type on my facebook page :)

Pear body shape

Pear body shape
Pear-shaped celebrities: Kim Kardashian, Eva Mendes, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Katherine Heigl
  • Pear body traits: Your lower body is wider than your upper body — in other words, your hips are wider than your shoulders. Your bottom is rounded and your waist is well-defined.
  • Your best assets: Shoulders, torso and flat stomach
  • Your fashion goals: Emphasize your waist and arms, add volume to your shoulders and upper body and minimize your hips.

Kim Kardashian has a pear shaped body typs

Dos and don'ts

If your body is pear-shaped like Kim Kardashian's, then you want to minimize your lower half and focus attention upward.
  • DON'T wear clothing that draws attention to hips and thighs, such as cargo pants or print skirts.
  • DO try a-line skirts, which camouflage wider hips.
  • DO keep hems of pants, skirts and dresses wide to balance the hips.
  • DO experiment with light-colored tops and dark-colored bottoms for contrast.
  • DO look for boat neck tops, square and cowl necklines.
  • DO wear strapless dresses to show off arms and even out proportions.
  • DO try styles with ruffles on top.
  • DO wear jackets that hit right above the waist.
  • DO opt for pointy-toed shoes to elongate your legs.
2

Wedge body shape

Wedge or inverted triangle body shape

Wedge-shaped celebs: Naomi Campbell, Demi Moore, Renee Zellweger, Teri Hatcher
  • Wedge body traits: Also known as the inverted triangle, this body shape features a broad chest and wide shoulders which are large in proportion to a narrow waist and hips.
  • Your best asset: Your legs
  • Your fashion goals: Accentuate your lower body while softening your shoulders and upper body.

Audrina Patridge has a wedge body shape; also called inverted triangle body type

Dos and don'ts

If you have a wedge body like Audrina Patridge's, then you want to draw attention downward to the narrower parts of your body, such as your waist and hips.
  • DO wear bright colors on bottom.
  • DO wear wide-leg pants.
  • DO wear full skirts.
  • DON'T wear spaghetti-strap tops.
  • DON'T wear boat neckline tops.
  • DO wear tops that call attention to your waistline.
  • DO experiment with high-waisted styles.
  • DO look for clothes that create the illusion of a waist.
3

Rectangle body shape

Rectangle body shape

Rectangle-shaped celebs: Natalie Portman, Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson, Hilary Swank
  • Rectangle body traits: The waist, hip and shoulder widths are similar and are usually on the slim side. Slender rectangles have an athletic look about them.
  • Your best assets: Your arms and legs — and you don't have to minimize any body features.
  • Your fashion goals: Create curves and show off slender legs and arms.

Natalie Portman has a rectangle shaped body type

Dos and don'ts

If your body is rectangle-shaped like Natalie Portman's, then you want to create curves where they don't necessarily exist.
  • DO wear scoop neck and sweetheart tops to create curves.
  • DO wear long jackets to create a lean look.
  • DO wear tops with collars, ruffles and details to flatter your chest.
  • DO wear a good bra that will make the most of what you have.
  • DON'T wear overwhelming styles.
  • DO layer to add more dimensions.
  • DO wear dresses with ruching. Cinches on sides are ideal.
  • DO have fun with colorful bottoms... feel free to experiment.
4

Apple body shape

Apple body shape

Apple-shaped celebs: Drew Barrymore, Queen Latifah, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Hudson
  • Apple body traits: Most of your weight accumulates above the hips, which are narrow. Your back, ribs and shoulders are broad, and you may feel wider than other body types.
  • Your best asset: Those legs!
  • Your fashion goals: Elongate the torso, show off your legs and use fashion to create the illusion of a waist.

Jennifer Hudson has an apple shaped body type

Dos and don'ts

If you have an apple-shaped body like Jennifer Hudson's, then you want to elongate your midsection and create the illusion of a smaller waist.
  • DO go for monochromatic looks.
  • DO go for v-neck tops to create the illusion of a longer torso.
  • DO wear a bra that offers good lift and support.
  • DO wear belts at the smallest part of your waist.
  • DO conceal tummy bulge by wearing empire tops and dresses.
  • DO wear boot cut and flared jeans to create an even line from the shoulders down.
  • DO wear shorter skirts to show off your legs and draw attention away from your midsection.
5

Hourglass body shape

Hour glass body shape

Hourglass-shaped celebs: Beyonce, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson, Halle Berry, Vanessa Minnillo
  • Hourglass body traits: Your shoulders and hips are similar in proportion and set off by a tiny waist.
  • Your best assets: Curves, curves, curves!
  • Your fashion goals: Show off your curves... without going overboard.

Dos and don'ts

Beyonce Knowles has an hourglass shaped body type

If your body is hourglass-shaped like Beyonce's, then you're a lucky girl! Your shape is all about tastefully showing off those curves: not too baggy, not too tight.
  • DON'T hide your curves with baggy clothing.
  • DO wear a good bra and showcase your bust.
  • DO wear fitted dresses.
  • DO wear a belt at the waist to enhance your hourglass shape.
  • DO try wrap dresses.
  • DO go for high-waisted skirts to show off your hips.
  • DO pick thin, lightweight styles and fabrics.
  • DO wear skinny or straight leg jeans.

Pancake Braid into Ponytail/Bun

This tutorial will show you how to take second day hair and turn it into a braided updo. My hair is VERY oily and I can't wear it down on the second day, it's also really long so it tends to get REALLY dry if I wash it too much. Washing your hair everyday can dry it out, so this is a great way to camouflage any oiliness by turning it into a fun and quick updo.

Starfish Nails- Picture Tutorial

I was up in Tennessee this past weekend to help my best friend from Cosmetology school (guest artist in my Valentines day tutorial) Cassie, find her wedding dress. So she had quite a bit of family come out there to be apart of the celebration! Savannah, her soon to be sister in law is an awesome nail artist and wanted to do our nails. So I picked out this starfish design that I found off pinterest, and took a picture tutorial so you ladies can paint this design! Follow along :)

Pictured above are the main colors that were used: Pro's Punki Pink, China Glaze For Audrey, and China Glaze Fairy Dust

Step 1) With clean nails, shape them to your desired look. Then put your base coat on.

Step 2) Apply two coats of For Audrey

Step 3) Apply 1 coat of Fairy Dust (if you don't have this exact sparkle color, try to use a fine silver sparkle polish)

Step 4) Using a dotting tool or a tooth pick, make starfishes on your nails using the Punki Pink. Randomize the placement. You might have to do two coats.

Step 5) Using a dotting tool or a tooth pick, make small white dots on top of your starfish with a white polish.

Step 6) Using a dotting tool or a tooth pick, mix up some fine gold glitter with clear polish and place a small dot on the surrounding of your starfish. This is meant to look like sand...so don't put too much. As you see in the picture it's not everywhere. Then smudge the gold out and around the starfish with your finger.

Step 7) Last thing to do is apply a top coat!

Savannah did an amazing job and I think I'm going to hold my breath for summer! This is actually a really easy nail design, and you can always switch up the colors. If you do this on your nails send me a picture of what yours look like!!!
Post it on my facebook ----> HERE!

I am so ready for it to be warm again...also ready to take a trip to the BEACH!!!

Recent Work

You know I love to share with you dolls what work I've recently done in the salon. So today I'm sharing Anna Laura's hair and makeup for her first middle school dance pictured above. We did rope curls with a side waterfall braid, and a soft makeup look to bring out her beautiful youthful features!

Below is something I am SUPER proud of! Sara Grace is naturally a strawberry blonde color but loves to step outside the box. I believe we nailed it, taking her from natural to a fiery ombre that leaks into copper infused ends. I used 3 colors: a deep Violet Red, that runs into a Red Red, that ends into a Copper Gold Red. Can you say...
IN LOVE!

This last one is my best friends Sister in law, Savannah. Her hair is long and without many layers, so I couldn't help it I had to play with it! This is how I came up with my Valentines Day hair tutorial. I did two celtic braids that met in the middle above a knotted messy updo. It's really fun and kinda of elvish...lol!
